Thoughts on Save Your People
Save Your People by Jim Farrell is a powerful contemporary Lenten hymn. The text is wonderful: Save your people, O Lord. Show us the way to come home. We have been wandering far from your love. Save your people, O Lord. It was written in a minor key and tends to be played rather slowly. I have chosen different tempi throughout and focus, in the beginning, on the musical phrase: We have been wandering, which builds to a frenzied conclusion when an oboe cries out: Lord ,save us. Silence follows. Then, the music changes to a major key as the promise of salvation is realized.
